If the tongue is not perfectly in the middle the hard plastic cleats on the sides will dig into your ankle.

The tongue isn't wide enough, so if the laces aren't real tight the sides rub the ankle in an annoying way. Otherwise they are great. Great ankle support and cushy foot bed.
