Abacus is Sickuulus

Comments about Arbor Abacus Snowboard 2009:

This board is as-advertised, brahs. When the shibby pow is up to yer ears, this is your log. Lay back and shred the pillow line, or attack the mogg-ules. This deck is lighter than air, snappy on chops, and ridunculous sexy. Stable enough for the grom slalom, too. I highly recommend it for epic days.

Comments about Arbor Abacus Snowboard 2009:

I have an Abacus from last year. Love it. The description says this board has a forgiving flex. Maybe they've changed it, because mine is super stiff, and poppy (which I love). This board is so fast. I can cut through chop at full speed without a problem. This thing powers through crud like a champ. It crushes deep pow effortlessly with no rear leg-burn. I used to ride a 173, until I rode a board with a tapered shape/set-back stance. This board feels long when you want it to, but rides like a shorter board when you aren't in powder. It's perfect. I'm 5"10' and ride the 164. I would like something longer with a swallowtail for huge days (2ft +), but aside from that, this board is perfect every day. The base is tough too. I ride Jackson Hole 4-5 days a week, and hit rocks all the time. I still don't have a core shot.

A great board for Powder

Comments about Arbor Abacus Snowboard 2009:

This is a light, fast board for powder and rides well on fresh groom as well. It is lightning quick on turns and performs beyond expectation in trees and tight spots. Setting the bindings way back on the board creates an unrivaled surf experience. It floats like a magic carpet in deep powder. It's not a great board for early or late season as it has a soft base and dents and scratches very easily. I definitely have a core shot and had the die cut chip through to the base in the first week (right along the lines of the design, no less). The taper tail can be unsteady on hardpack and in icy conditions. This is a board for an experienced rider who wants to play in the powder and knows how to avoid the rocks and logs.

Comments about Arbor Abacus Snowboard 2009:

I have only been on it twice. Once on a packed powder day and once in 10 inches of powder. On the packed groomers I would say it ran well. Very stable and just cut through early morning crust. I went from a 158 to this 164 Abacus and I was worried about getting it around but that was no problem. Turning felt a little wider, but more solid. On the powder day this frickin thing was awesome. I set the bindings back and just surfed the back bowls at Vail. I would only consider myself an intermediate, but this board gave me total confidence back there in the powder. My only concern would be being able whip it through small turns in the trees but I think I will get used to that. And I didn't find it to be crazy fast, but it was more 'sneaky fast'. Maybe it was just because there no chatter and real stable. It is a great ride.

Comments about Arbor Abacus Snowboard 2009:

I rode the Abacus for the first time at Mt. Bachelor in the trees. They had a nice layer of fresh, but on my standard board I was breaking through to an ice layer below. With a 164 Abacus I was floating on the good stuff and with the tapered tail I was still able to make tight turns in the trees. It was also good for soul carves on the groomers. Then I rode it at Crystal Mt., which had a good 18 inches of heavy fresh on a pow base, and took it into some steep sections, pillows and drops and it was solid. I think it takes some getting used to on drops, like you have to lean forward a bit more than normal because the nose is there for you. It is sooooo fun in deep snow to be on top of your turns! Riding switch....probably not so much but it would be cool to fully reverse the stance and learn to ride the opposite way. And because of the powder specific geometry your new back leg would be getting some training assistance. Super fun board! Stable and light and it reminds me of how fun a simple turn can be!
