Volkl Mantra Skis 2008 - Make the whole mountain your mantra, with the 2008 Volkl Mantra Skis. With a bit more added weight and width (an extra 2mm from top to bottom) and increased stiffness this season, the reshaped twin-tip Volkl Mantra Ski is stable to take on the deep stuff while still keeping that race-ski feel. The new 133-96-116mm sidecut and greater surface area promises excellent float, with enough stability to let you hack through the crud as well. Light and quick enough for the trees, but fat enough for the fluff, the Volkl Mantra Skis leave you so zen you might just forget you’re strapped into anything at all.
  • Power Construction — The tried and tested sandwich construction is experiencing a renaissance in the freeski models of tomorrow. Power Construction describes the combination of two new Volkl technologies: Tough Box and Armed Edge—a combo for the most demanding conditions.
  • Tough Box Technology — Volkl has created a new core construction process for their new freeski and telemark models, the Tough Box. In this construction method, each wooden core is given extra strength by a 4x4 FiberWrap covering. In order to obtain maximum load in all directions, several layers of thin and highly durable fiberglass bands are wrapped around the core in a cross pattern. This construction allows the binding screws to be anchored even more securely into the skis and guarantee a firm hold even under extreme conditions.
  • ArmedEDGE — Give yourself an edge! All new freeride and freestyle skis from Volkl have an extra strong edge, which makes the ski even more robust. ArmedEDGE—a toughened steel edge.
  • Increased Fiberglass Wrap in Mid-Body — Extra fiberglass wraps in the mid-body of the ski provide resistance to binding pullout.

Comments about Volkl Mantra Skis 2008:

Skied the Mantras 3 days @ Park City; variable conditions, 4 inches new pow, steeps, and hard pack. In the pow the Mantras are light and smooth as silk. Turns (177) we amazingly easy for such a wide ski on the steeps (two snowless days later), cut through the crud, and flexed well in shallow bumps. The skis are stable at speed, hold an edge well on hard pack, and perform medium to long turns well. Was using AC30s as an all around ski but think the Mantras will take their place. Didn't ski any icy conditions.

Comments about Volkl Mantra Skis 2008:

Bought the Solomon Sandstorms. One run on them and I was back to shopping for a new stick (waaaay too soft). This is the ski for the all-around ripper. Powder, hardpack, steeps, softpack, crud. These are the skis that will perform in all conditions! I'm buying a 2nd pair before they stop producing them!
