Comments about K2 obSETHed Skis 2009:

These are, by far, the best pair of skis I have owned, or ridden, in over 30 years of skiing. Evo gave me a solid deal so I ordered them last week. In Mammoth this past weekend, I sessioned them on Old Faithful, all over Dragon's Head, Back and Tail, Hemlock, the Noids and even on some random hits.

We found fresh powder stashes in the trees and out of bounds from the 420" they received so far this season, in addition to perfect wind blown pow, hard pack, groomed lines, moguls in the chairlines and even some corn as the place heated up. The ObSETHeds were plain dominant. They reacted to every condition, riding standard and switch, with ease and conviction. I just bought a pair of AR6s this season but those may never see the outside of my locker again.

If you are even considering this ski, click to buy now. In my opinion, there's not a better ski in production. K2 may offer the highest quality, most versatile skis for the all-mountain/park/backcountry-oriented riders (I've skied Rossignol, Salomon, Armada and Dynastar - none comes close).

For your reference, I'm 5'9" 155, and bought the 179s. I mounted them with Salomon STH 14s at the factory suggested spot. Never been happier.

It has not been stellar snow at Fernie BC this year, yet I took these skis out on a 9 cm fresh snow day with lots of ice underneath. Wow, these really performed well, even on a slicked off slope of 30 degrees heading back to a T Bar. The skis are surprisingly quick and turney for a big board. My family and I (we are all advanced skiers), hunt for new or near new powder in trees on single and some double blacks in the bowls, and the skis performed very well. Good float, good control, and very good at short radius turns in the bumps. I am not a screamer skier anymore, I like steep, in the trees with fresh snow/soft crud. These skis did it all very well. The rocker does exactly as it is advertised. The other ski that I hummed about was the Prophet 100, which I would love to try out. The Obsethed's are better than my 1080 guns at edge grip and floatation, but not quite as quick edge to edge.

Comments about K2 obSETHed Skis 2009:

This ski Floats like a dream due to the 'mini-rocker' it is its groomer performance that really surprised me though. I have skid this ski in Alberta, Canada at Lake Luoise on a knee to waist deep day and at Sunshine on groomers and i can say that both experiences left me with a big grin on my face.

The '09 obSETHed has to be one of the most versatile mid-fats if not one of the most versatile twin tips ever released.

In pow it just floated, it was a dream to maneuver be it short or long although it was when you let the radius go that this ski was the most fun. Responsive and accurate as it was it also lends itself to a more dramatic 'slash' or a drifty sliding turn if thats your style.

As excited as I was by the powder performance it was the front side grip and speed that amazed me. The base was faster than alot of twins i have skid and its underfoot stiffness was incredibly handy keep its long fast radius under control. I have Fritschi freestyle binding on it and as most would know they lift you a little higher than most from the ski being touring capable binding. This works to the skiers advantage as it increases you edging angle and makes the ski quicker from edge to edge, barely more of an effort than my AR6's from edge to edge.

All in all i would not recommend the '09 obSETHed's as a beginner ski. They are a handful and love to get away from you both on front and back sides of the mountain.

That said if you are keen to work hard for your reward it will be large and the potential of this ski is unlimited. bit chutes and soft landings would see it break away from the rest, as would your trip back to the car park, just stay clear of the park, even at a shorter length the stiffness underfoot is not made up for by the flexible tips or the rocker. It is unforgiving on park and will not be the best for rails.

Buy this ski if you want the best true free ski on the planet.

Comments about K2 obSETHed Skis 2009:

Powder in the Pacific Northwest is more enjoyable with a pair of the K2 Obsethed boards under foot.

I spent the last three days (Jan. 2-4) at Crystal Mountain in Washington state. Temps were in the range of 10-25 degrees, with over 24" of new snow. I spent most of my days skiing great steep fall line routes in boot to waist deep powder.

The Obsethed rides like a Cadillac through the deep stuff, holds an edge on the hard pack, and navigates the bumps like water flowing down a mountain. I love this ski and need to re-evaluate my fiscally conservative outlook for 2009. There's a good chance I will just show up at home with these, to the 'surprise' my wife. I'm sure she'll be psyched...

Seriously, I hiked Northback and Southback at Crystal, skiing everyone the mountain had to offer. In the steeps, I rode the Obsethed edge to edge with full confidence and control. In the deep, I made effortless turns through the powder, with just enough rocker in the skis to keep the tips up and out without having to sit back too much. In the bumps, I ploughed through with a confidence not entirely expected on fat skis. On the groomers, I went edge to edge like I was carving on a snowboard... ...but I felt and looked better!

Obsethed. Get some!

Comments about K2 obSETHed Skis 2009:

This is the best ski I've been on. The Outlaws have been my mainstay for the last two years and I'm a K2 fanatic. I ski back country mostly in Utah and this ski is a dream. You can be aggressive in the powder with the rocker tip and cruise straight and fast on the groomers in the early morning. It is a plow through the snowboard sluff. This ski is a 10 plus! Get the Marker binding with the new technology for the wide ski. They hit a home run with this series. PS The Obsethed is 4 pounds lighter than the Outlaws with bindings.

i love these skis. they float great in powder and the little bit of rocker they have makes all the difference. they also ride really well on the groomed runs. i expected them to do terrible in moguls but they actually did pretty well. the only thing i didn't like is that they scratch easily, but that doesn't really effect there performance.

Comments about K2 obSETHed Skis 2009:

I am more of a race-inspired guy, but went heli-skiing this last season and decided I needed to get a fatter pair of skis for the occasional NW powder day. I demoed these guys and they were absolutely off the hook. It was full spring skiing conditions and the ObSethEds handled everything beautifully. The rocker makes them pretty easy to turn and I even inadvertently hit a mogul field going about Mach 10 and knew I was going to bite it - and never did. They just floated over each bump like it was a joke. I would absolutely reccomend these skis to anyone looking for a fat ski. The twin-tip is a cool bonus but I dont care about the park at all so cant comment there.

ABOUT K2 obSETHed Skis 2009

K2 obSETHed Skis 2009 – A twin for the big mountain obsessed, K2’s ObSethed Factory team series skis take Seth’s ski designing in a radical new direction. Nearly 10 mm wider then Seth Morrison’s last ski, the Obsethed skis are a big mountain twin ski with K2’s easy to ride standard taper. Seth designed these skis to work with his freeskiing style but kept versatility in mind. The shorter rockered tip on the K2 obSethed Skis make them more versatile in crud and hard pack then their rocker bro, the HellBent. Warning: One run and you’ll be obSethed!
  • Vertical ABS Sidewalls: Precision and strength all in one, so you can go to hell and back again without ever worrying about your ski core.
  • 3.5 mm edge: Thicker more durable steel edges prolong the life of your skis
  • Tip and Tail Plates and rivets: Aesthetically pleasing, extremely functional, tip and tail reinforcements so your skis tips and tails are better prepared to take a beating.
  • 15/20 Rocker Design: 15mm between the tip/tail and the traditional contact points and 20mm of rocker from those contact points. Ski deep pow, get big float and enjoy a loose bio-directional feel originally inspired by the surf industry.
