All-mountain performance so versatile it should be illegal. The K2 Apache Outlaw Ski is back in action for 2008 as K2’s most versatile, highest performing ski built for adventurous experts. An impressively big 88-mm waist with a progressive sidecut gives this bad boy exceptional powder performance—but it’s the Metal Laminate titanium sheets, M1 binding system and Mod Monic technology that keep the K2 Apache Outlaw stable and quiet as a church during Mardi Gras when you’re busting through the crud. While it craves the off-piste, your Apache Outlaw will still give you awesome performance all over the slopes—and when combined with the Piston binding system designed to smooth your turn rebound, you’ll feel the vibration reduction wherever you are. Whether you’re seeking first tracks or skirting the rope in search of softer snow, the 2008 K2 Apache Outlaw Ski, with Marker Piston M1 12.0 Ski Bindings, is one versatile all-mountain bandito.
  • MOD TECHNOLOGY: The ultimate in modern ski design. MOD combines an elastomeric secondary core that works as a high-performance suspension system and mass damper to provide the highest degree of ease, power, forgiveness and performance.
  • MOD MONIC: Focuses the benefits of mass dampening into a concentrated area. Bottom line: lighter weight, in all the right spots.
  • METAL LAMINATE: Two sheets of titanium alloy run the length of the ski, while alternating layers of fiberglass and titanium surround a wood core. Delivers damp, accurate and unshakeable performance ideal for expert-level skis.
  • PROGRESSIVE SIDECUT: Provides wider-waisted skis with more versatility to be used in all conditions; confident and quick initiation on hard snow, with easy release in powder and crud.
  • TITAN TECHNOLOGY: A visible extension of the standard metal laminate. Reduced swing weight offers a skier more control, with less fatigue. MARKER PISTON M1 12.0 BINDING SYTEM: Fewer moving parts than conventional bindings mean quicker, more efficient power transmission to your edges; 30% wider girth delivers increased leverage. The Piston system gives you smoother rebounding from turns, while the fixed heel and floating toe drive power down and forward. DIN up to 12.

Comments about K2 Apache Outlaw Skis + Marker Piston Bindings 2008:

These are a great pair of all-mountain skis. In the trees, they are rather agile and turn remarkably quick for a fatty ski. Not as stiff and physically demanding as, say the Volkl Unlimited, but still a ski for people who like to rip it. Holds edge well on groomers at high speed, although not extensively tested in these conditions. On moguls (tested here at Mary Jane CO, mogul capital of the US): I was surprised at how quick to turn the ski was and that it didn't feel excessively hard. These skis like to go fast and like aggressive skiers, although will act docile when not pushed hard. Overall, a great ski, originally way overpriced, bit now (Jan '09) a great deal in the 500-600 price range.
P.S. Powder performance: couldn't really tell, since I tend to err on the dark side on powder days (snowboard).
