South America Itinerary

2 Weeks in South America: September, 2009

evo is proud to offer this amazing trip to South America. The Summer 2009 adventure is the inaugural fulll-blown, group travel evoTrip experience. The trip consists of one week at Las Termas ski area in southern Chile, which features the longest run in South America, followed by one week in Itacare´, Brazil.  Guests stay at the unique Mission Impossible Lodge in Chile with optional excursions available for serious off-piste riding. After a week in the mountains, we depart for a week of surfing in Itacare´, Brazil. Itacare´ is a small Atlantic town surrounded by an expansive, protected rain forest. The region gets consistent surf year-round and is renowned for its spiritual Afro-Brazilian culture. Itacare´ is also notorious among surfers for being a remote surf hideaway.  As a result, the town remains a picturesque fishing village while providing great nightlife.

Details

Terrain

Las Termas de Chillan has a total of nine lifts serving 1,100 vertical meters (3,610 feet) of continuously skiable terrain and features South America's longest run at 13 kilometers (8 miles). Other aspects that make Las Termas stand out are its abundant off-piste skiing, unmatched snow conditions; and pristine native forests.

The whole nature of Itacaré is wonderful, but the beaches deserve special commentaries. Some of them are so small and hidden that they do not show up on maps or tour guides.  The region is cut by innumerous rivers and waterfalls and it is one of the last in Bahia presenting the Atlantic Rain Forest, one of the richest ecosystems in the world. The forest was preserved thanks to the cocoa culture, which was the base of the economy in the first half of the 20th century. The cocoa tree is a short tree which has to be cultivated in the shade, so, for economic reasons, man had to preserve the forest. This was not the case in the rest of the state, which makes the landscape in Itacaré noticeably different and more characteristic of time past.

Accommodation

Chile:

The Mission Impossible Lodge is located in Valle Las Trancas.  More precisely, it is nestled in the Shangri-La Valley at 8 kms from the ski resort Las Termas de Chillan. The all natural wood burning hot tubs, climbing gym, fitness room, bar and Wi-Fi are all bonuses.

Brazil:

The Itacare´ Surf House is located only 400 meters from one of the most famous beaches in Brazil, Tiririca Beach. The atmosphere is relaxed, but the surf house isn’t far from Itacare’s small shops and bars.  It’s the prime spot for sleeping near the beach and spending days outside, surfing and exploring new areas.
