INTERVIEW

Hey Kohl, how have you been lately?
I've been good. Just getting ready for summer!

You just graduated from high school, where did you go? How does it feel to be done with it? What’s next?
I just graduated from Woodinville High School. So glad to be done with high school and move onto something new.

So you’re off to the U-Dub, to play soccer on a scholarship, right?
Yea, I'll be dawg next year. Might red shirt first season but we'll see how things work out.

How long have you been playing soccer for?
I think my parents first signed me up to play when I was 6....long time ago to think about it now!

Any other secret talents I should know about?
Well not to brag......but I was ranked #1 in my racket sports class in badminton.

Badminton huh? I can see that. Let’s talk about skiing. So you grew up racing and it has giving you a real solid skiing background. When did you ditch racing for jumping?
I was always into the park scene even while I was racing. Whenever we weren't training gates...which was rarely, I always went to the park. Racing was definitely good for turning me into a well rounded skier but you can only handle how serious that stuff is for so long.

You placed in a lot of events around here this year, is there anything else you did to get your name out there?
Well to be honest, I didn't really do the comps to get my name out there. I just did those local comps for fun. Its cool seeing how much local talent in Washington there is. But I guess it works for getting my name out there! and I suppose New Intelligent Group helps too.

Tell me about the New Intelligent Group?
Ha pretty crazy how that came about actually. I went out to Vermont to ski with family and friends and I met Evan and Ryan Williams at Smugglers Notch. Basically we kept it touch and they ended up coming out that summer to Hood. Each year basically I head out there or they head here. Its pretty cool to have a connection like that on the East coast for when I head there and vice versa for them to come here. But as far as the crew goes, Evan Williams basically kills it at editing and filming and so last season we put out our first movie called Memo, and now this summer were working on editing our movie for this fall.

What are you calling your movie for next fall? Where can I see the teaser?
This year’s movie is called "The Motherland." The teaser is online on our website www.newintelligentgroup.com you can also pre order it there too...

That’s a sick teaser, tons of shots of you in there, mostly on Hellbents. Do you ski those most of the time? What other gear might I see you sporting?
I definitely started skiing my Hellbents way more than any skis this year. Once you start riding a pair you just get hooked, they are ridiculously fun. Basically Oakley and of course Uni Threads.

Any other end-of-interview thanks you want to give? Perhaps sponsors, friends, filmers or TMs?
Definitely want to thank the parents for all the support. Thanks to my friends that I ride with and especially all my friends that film me ha! Thanks to the Girlfriend! thanks to Dan and Vic at Uni threads, Todd at K2, Matt at Oakley for helping me out in the last few seasons, and of course Shalbot at evo!
