Explore the Mount Adams backcountry on this fully guided one day Adventure

On this one-day guided mountain bike trip with our partners at Trans Cascadia, we’ll experience the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and the Mount Adams backcountry. This area is a major contender for best places in Washington to mountain bike, trust us. After 5 years of exploration, Trans-Cascadia is finally at a point where they can show you around. This band of the Cascade Range that surrounds Mt. Adams provides some of the most remote and most unique singletrack opportunities in the PNW. Big rides and huge views of Mt. Adams, Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens to be expected. Enjoy this adventure as you’ll be sampling one of the most remote regions in the Cascade Mountain range… where few go.

Itinerary
Subject to change based on conditions.
  • 1
    Day number 1
Arrive - Meet by 9:15 am in Randle, WA at at the Junction of the 23 Road and Sunrise Road 2324 to load up bikes and depart by 9:30 am. We will go over the plan for the day on the way to the trails and get ready to ride when we arrive.
  • 2
    Day number 2
We’ll start our day from our meeting location and drive 20 Minutes to our first shuttle drop to East Canyon Trail, close to Takhlakh Lake. From here, we’ll make our way west up East Canyon, that includes a nice little bike/hike a bike to get to our high point. From the high point and on a clear day, you have the Best place to view Mt Adams, staring you down and offering a great look at this amazing volcano. From here, we have a sporty decent, created by motos and perfectly bermed for modern mountain bikes. We descend our way to the 2328 road and what is essentially a road to trail conversion until we hit the top of our last descent before lunch on Squaw Creek. Squaw is a sweet piece of trail that links up with our lunch van and a scrappy connector that offers some nice fall line descending through the Squaw Creek Drainage and a great way to end Part 1 of the day.
  • 3
    Day number 3
We’ll link up with the van, have the chance to dunk in the river and grab some food and beverage. From here, we’ll make our way to the Sunrise Road for a massive shuttle to the Upper Sunrise Parking Lot. We’ll exit the vehicle and immediately start a short but stout hike a bike to reach the ridgeline on Juniper ridge. We’ll head south towards Jumbo peak. Between Sunrise Mountain and Jumbo peak is mostly rideable, with short sections of hike a bike to get us to our high point and the start of our final descent on Dark Meadow.

After we catch our breath and our last view point of Mt Adams, Rainier and Hood, we’ll hop on our bikes for a massive descent down South Juniper Ridge and right into the Dark Meadow Trail all the way to the valley floor. A little river ford, and before you know it, beer will be in hand and stories will be told.

After an epic day of riding in the shadows of the neighboring volcanoes, we’ll load up the van and head back to the various shuttle pick-ups. Make sure you have enough phone battery (or bring a charging brick) so you can share your pics from the day with your new riding buddies.

Area Information
Mount Adams Backcountry

Off the beaten path, and deep in the forest, this section of the Cascade Range that surrounds Mt. Adams is a hidden gem. The mountain biking near Mount Adams is something not many riders get to experience, this trip will bring you to the best of the best. Sections of our ride will be through beautiful wildflower meadows which should be in peak to late bloom during our July visit. Be sure to pack the camera because the views of Adams are spectacular!

Trip Planning

Trip Planning

For this one-day adventure, we recommend bringing a riding pack with water and snacks as well as a day pack with any layers or additional gear you may need for a day on the trail. The Mount Adams area typically sees highs of the lower 80’s and lows of mid 50’s in July. At times there is not much forest cover so be sure to wear sun protection. Rain also comes and goes so make sure you bring some rain gear as well!

FAQ
FAQ
  • When and how do I meet up with the group?
Meet by 9:15 AM at the Junction of the 23 Road and Sunrise Road 2324. Detailed instructions come with your booking. Shuttle departs at 9:30 AM. Hood River Riders: Inquire about a shorter drive option.
  • What about COVID-19?
Both evo and our partners at Trans-Cascadia take COVID-19 very seriously and with the utmost caution. Please bring your mask and expect to wear it at times when social distancing is not possible, such as during rides in the Trans-Cascadia shuttle. Please check evo.com/adventure-travel/covid-19 for evo's policy on travel and COVID-19. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach us at [email protected].
  • Do I need travel insurance?
We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance for all trips, and especially considering the current COVID-19 pandemic. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement if you are forced to cancel your trip for unforeseeable reasons, or if you need to cover medical help, emergency transport, theft and/or accidental damage while traveling. We recommend World Nomads, which unlike most providers does offer policies that cover pandemics and epidemics. Please note that travel insurance generally only covers unforeseen events. Most insurers classified COVID-19 as a 'known event' starting in late January 2020. Lastly, please note that concerns or fear of travel is not a covered reason for cancellation relating to COVID-19. For additional questions, please contact evo or World Nomads directly.
  • Do you have any other trip dates available?
There is another day trip August 23 that explores the Lewis River Drainage -- it's a slightly different section of Mount Adams, in the southern portion of Gifford Pinchot National Forest. If you're interested, give us a call or email us [email protected] for more details and/or to book!
  • What skill/experience level is required for this trip?

  • What gear should I bring? Do you offer rentals?
Please see the packing list above. The best bike for this trip will be a full suspension XC bike. All participants are required to have their bikes in excellent working order before the trip begins. Rental bikes are not available through Trans-Cascadia, please inquire with evo about possible rentals.
  • Is the trip guaranteed to run?
This trip requires six guests to run, please do not book travel or flights until you have confirmed your departure with Trans Cascadia.
  • What is the maximum number of guests on this trip?
Trans Cascadia will cap this trip at 12 guests to ensure everyone gets as much riding as their heart's desire.
  • What if I need to cancel?
Should you need to cancel for any reason, evo will default to Trans-Cascadia’s following cancellation policy: For cancellations prior to 60 days before departure, a $50 fee per person is retained and the remainder of your trip cost is refunded. For cancellations 60-31 days before departure, 50% of your trip fees are refunded. For cancellations 30 days or less before departure, no refunds. Trans-Cascadia Excursions reserves the right to cancel any trip. Full refunds will be made in these instances. Trans-Cascadia Excursions is not responsible for non-refundable airfare.
